May offers a host of fantastic days out in Windsor with something for everyone – whether you want family fun, sport or the arts.
Windsor and its attractions are just 15 minutes by car from the Thames Riviera Hotel. Here are just some of the events coming up in the next few weeks…
Enjoy the UK’s largest outdoor premier horse show with showjumping at the highest level plus four star international dressage and carriage driving.
Attractions will also include the Household Cavalry, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games and the Shetland Pony Grand National.
HM The Queen is the show’s patron and often visits on an informal basis to watch her horses compete.
Windsor Great Park is precisely that – it’s great (the clue’s in the name) – and there’s no finer way to see it than from your very own horse-drawn carriage.
Ride in style like HM The Queen courtesy of Windsor Carriages, the last hackney carriage company in England to have retained the 1654 licence first granted by Oliver Cromwell.
And you can even specify picnic hampers and champagne for that extra touch of luxury.
Your kids will love Paw Patrol’s Chase and Marshall (May 1) and Dora the Explorer (May 29). Both days will feature pony rides, face-painting, bouncy castles and a funfair.
Under-18s can gain entry for free on May 1 and 29 2017 when accompanied by an adult. All the gates, bars and restaurants will be open from noon (two hours before the first race).
Buy your tickets in advance and you’ll save £3/adult on Club and Grandstand Enclosure tickets.
Foyle’s War/Alex Rider author Anthony Horowitz’s psychological thriller Mindgame will be at Windsor’s Theatre Royal from May 1-6 2017.
The plot centres on a pulp crime novelist’s interview with a notorious serial killer at an asylum – revealing dark secrets through a series of deceptions…
And from May 17-20 2017 Strictly Murder features Brian Capron (Coronation Street, Where the Heart Is, Grange Hill, Celebrity Masterchef), Corrinne Wicks (Doctors/Emmerdale) and Gary Turner (Emmerdale) in a twisting, turning thriller set in 1939.
More than 1,000 Jaguars and Daimlers will gather at Windsor Castle on Saturday May 6 2017 for one of the largest public displays of its kind.
Up to 250 Jaguars will parade through Windsor with a further 750 lining The Long Walk – together they will span eight decades of the classic marques.
London 2012 venue Dorney Lake will host the Windsor & Eton Super Sprint Triathlon on Saturday May 6 2017.
Take part in a 400m swim, 10km bike ride and 2.5km run – a great event to add to your 2017 triathlon calendar.
All finishers will receive a medal – find out more here about the provisional start time, wetsuit rules and the British Triathlon Federation rules.
